TOWN OF SIDNEY

Set along the calm waters of the Salish Sea, the town of Sidney is a coastal community on southern Vancouver Island, just minutes from Victoria and a gateway to the Gulf Islands. Known as “Sidney by the Sea,” the town has long welcomed visitors arriving by ferry, plane, and road, drawn to its relaxed pace and oceanside charm. Surrounded by beaches, marinas, and sweeping views of Mount Baker, Sidney offers easy access to nature alongside a vibrant small-town atmosphere.

Beacon Avenue, the heart of downtown, is lined with independent boutiques, bookstores, cafés, and locally loved restaurants, many with ocean views. The town is also home to cultural highlights like the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, waterfront sculptures, and seasonal markets and events that bring the community to life year-round.

Compact and walkable, Sidney is easy to explore on foot or by bike, with a scenic waterfront pathway stretching along the shoreline. Whether you’re kayaking in the harbour, browsing local shops, or enjoying fresh seafood by the water, Sidney offers a laid-back coastal experience suited to all ages and interests in every season.

Home to a collection of distinct communities including Sidney, Central Saanich, and North Saanich, the peninsula has long been a place of connection, shaped by agriculture, marine travel, and a deep relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Inland, country roads wind through working farms, vineyards, and orchards, reflecting the area’s strong agricultural roots and growing food and wine scene.

Visitors will find a mix of experiences across the region, from seaside dining and local markets to hiking trails, heritage sites, and cycling routes that link each community. Easily accessible yet distinctly removed from the pace of the city, the Saanich Peninsula offers a relaxed, immersive West Coast experience for a wide range of interests, year-round.
