Victoria is full of fun hidden gems, here are a few of our favs!

1. The Moss Lady: Located in Beacon Hill Park behind the Cameron bandshell lies the moss lady, an 11 metre long sculpture of a sleeping woman created by artist Dale Doebert and the City Park Staff. This colossal creation was inspired after seeing photographs of the famous “Mud Maiden” in the Lost Gardens of Heligan in England. Made up of boulders, pipes, cement, and wire and covered with a specially designed clay-based acidic soil, the Moss Lady looks as if she was lulled to sleep by the nearby babbling brooks while tucked in a blanket of moss.

2. Stairs by the Sea: Located along Dallas Road towards the Breakwater is the Dallas Road Staircase. The staircase is dawned with a stunning mural titled “Ocean of Consciousness” by duo Fua Collective. Fua Collective said “It’s about the recognition and felt experience of nature within us (the hands) It’s about portraying an awareness of an union with the surrounding elements (water-seal/earth-deer) and an integration into wholeness (otter- water and land).” This magical staircase that leads right into the ocean is definitely a hidden gem worth finding!

3. Dragon Alley: Located between Fisgard and Herald Street is Dragon Alley. Originally there were two passageways constructed by Michael Hart in 1890 through the buildings, the second one connecting Store street and Government Street. Today they have been reworked into a colourful maze of small businesses and studios with lovely garden patios making Dragon Alley a great spot for a little photoshoots.
